ABV is the percentage of the drink volume that is pure alcohol. A 50 ml measure of 40% spirit contains 20 ml pure alcohol. Adding 150 ml alcohol-free mixer gives 10% ABV before ice melt.

The ABV drops as ice melts. The total alcohol does not disappear when a drink is diluted. Enter every alcoholic ingredient, including liqueurs and wine.
